What to expect during a consultation

The first consultation focusses on getting necessary personal information. We will discuss your medical history, dietary preferences and personal habits. The first session will be approximately 90 minutes and covers the following ‘ABCD’ factors:

An anthropometric assessment that includes measurement and interpretation of your weight, height, waist and hip circumferences, BMI and an in-depth body composition analysis, done with an mBCA (medical Body Composition Analyser).

In the case of a paediatric assessment, it includes your child’s growth and weight gain with the interpretation of the results.

A biochemistry assessment, bring along any relevant and recent blood results with you in case of deficiencies or areas of concern (for example blood cholesterol).

Clinical assessment includes screening for visible or reported signs related to your medical conditions and general health such as frequent heartburn, bloating etc.

Diet assessment includes discussion of allergies or intolerances, your eating habits throughout a typical day and a food frequency questionnaire that is needed to develop a personal meal plan or diet to suit your needs.

You may receive a general educational pamphlet relevant to your condition or goals during the first assessment. I will guide you in creating short-term and long-term goals, to help set reachable targets and make your journey measurable and more rewarding.

Follow up consultations are an average of 40 minutes.  Your measurements will be taken, along with a discussion of your current meal plan, provided and discussed in the second consultation.

You will be able to do a body composition analysis at an additional cost during each follow up consult if requested.

I advise at least 4 – 6 follow up consultations with regular monitorings to help establish a healthy lifestyle and to provide you with the essential tools needed to reach and maintain your health goals. Weekly, bi-weekly and monthly consultations can be done based on individual needs.

Please note that I have a cash practice and consults are charged at medical aid rates. I accepted cash, card or EFT payment on the day of assessment. You will have the option to claim back the consultation fee from your medical aid.

You will be able to schedule follow-up appointments on my website or during your appointment if preferred.
